About the MKG Instructor Association & MKG Branch Schools:

MKG International is a martial arts organization based on the Minnesota Kali Group and Rick Faye’s training methods, instructor development and approach. It’s focus is to bring the benefits of the martial arts to the general public. Rick’s school, instructors and approach to the art is epitomized by a quote from his teacher Dan Inosanto: “a good instructor creates an environment where knowledge reveals itself”. Our branch locations, which focus and specialize in MKG’s trademarked Phase Class program, have taken the Minnesota Kali Group atmosphere, curriculum and approach and brought it to their location.

In addition to the branch schools, there are close to 200 instructors certified by Rick Faye to teach the curriculum via the "Kali Group method". These MKG Instructor Association members may be teaching at a branch location or at another martial arts organization.

The MKG method is a mixture of arts and methods from many different sources. Over the years this outline has proven effective for teaching a wide variety of students. Our goal is bring the benefits of martial arts to as many different types of students as possible. Using the J.K.D. concept of attribute training and development we have put together programs that help the students attain a higher level of proficiency and personal well being. We believe that the martial arts of today can be used to better the world. Our instructors use the art to point out life messages.

How Airline Passengers Can Fight Back

MINNEAPOLIS - The Christmas Day Northwest flight showed once again that passengers can stop a would-be terrorist. FOX 9 investigators show you how passengers can fight back. Bruce Schneier is a sought after expert in airport security, based in Minneapolis. He believes the government is ignoring the "x" factor. "One of the things we've learned since 9/11 is that a line of passengers fighting back is a line of defense we have and that's one of the things that worked Christmas Day," said Schneier.

Christmas day, in Detroit, it was a Dutch passenger, sitting an aisle away, who finally subdued a Nigerian trying to light his explosive underwear. The government and airlines have done little to educate that courageous citizenry to provide real lessons from United Flight 93 on 9/11, or the passenger beat down of shoe bomber Richard Reid. Part of the problem is that nowadays passengers are treated like cattle; we're complacent and compliant, which isn't to say that we shouldn't obey TSA or the flight crew. We should. It is to say, if there was a moment when passengers were needed to stand up and take action, would we know our moment, when it came. Basic maneuvers are simpler and easier than you think.Self-defense expert Rick Faye has trained pilots, flight attendants, and worked with federal air marshals. To avoid racial or religious profiling, Fay says it's important to focus on behavior.
