The Minnesota Kali Group was founded by head instructor, Rick Faye, 20+ years ago. His unique perspective on the art, teaching and training has benefitted thousands of students over the years. Currently there are MKG schools in Duluth, MN, Seattle, WA; Wigan, U.K. & Bournemouth, U.K. London UK, Madrid Spain. World wide there are over 100 MKG instructors certified under Rick Faye. His school, instructors and approach to the art is epitomized by a quote from his teacher Dan Inosanto: “a good instructor creates an environment where knowledge reveals itself”. Our Minneapolis facility has an extensive personal training area with heavy bags, speed bags, various training dummies as well as weight lifting and cardio equipment.

We are able to train the vast spectrum of people who want to learn martial art: from the beginner to the instructor. Our friendly and active atmosphere is casual: the uniform is sweats, athletic shoes and a Kali Group t-shirt. Instructors are accessible for questions & advice and are called by their first name. Our no contracts/no pressure environment is a hallmark of the MKG. All MKG instructors are certified in a direct lineage to Bruce Lee and Guro Dan Inosanto and are personally coached by Rick Faye. We also host seminars with the world’s best martial artists: Guro Dan Inosanto, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, Sensei Erik Paulson, Profesor John Machado, Sifu Francis Fong and many more!

Christmas day, in Detroit, it was a Dutch passenger, sitting an aisle away, who finally subdued a Nigerian trying to light his explosive underwear. The government and airlines have done little to educate that courageous citizenry to provide real lessons from United Flight 93 on 9/11, or the passenger beat down of shoe bomber Richard Reid. Part of the problem is that nowadays passengers are treated like cattle; we're complacent and compliant, which isn't to say that we shouldn't obey TSA or the flight crew. We should. It is to say, if there was a moment when passengers were needed to stand up and take action, would we know our moment, when it came. Basic maneuvers are simpler and easier than you think.Self-defense expert Rick Faye has trained pilots, flight attendants, and worked with federal air marshals. To avoid racial or religious profiling, Fay says it's important to focus on behavior.
