MKG FAQ
Where do I start?
Start with a free class! Your first class, or day of classes if you’d like to do more than one in a day, is on us.

What class should I start with?
The best place to start is with whatever sounds interesting and you can make it to. The main goal is to get started, wherever that happens to be. If you are completely unsure, the MKG Blend or Muay Thai programs are typically good entry points. We also have 4 different “Foundations” classes in different arts scattered through the week. You are welcome and encouraged to attend any class that looks interesting. Just pick a day that works for you and hop in! This is, unless you are under the age of 14. In that case we ask that you start with our youth program (ages 7-13).

How do I book my first class?
You can simply show up 10 minutes before class, or you can reserve ahead of time at https://www.mnkali.com/schedule

What is the culture of the gym?
We are welcoming and inclusive gym for people from all walks of life, ages and physical abilities. This is coupled with a friendly and supportive ‘family-like’ environment. The overall tone of training here is best exemplified by our motto “Train Hard. Have fun.” We want you to enjoy your training and grow, and it is our job to guide you from where you are at and to help you find the martial arts tools that best fit you personally. No ego, bullies, or harassment allowed.
–
What about sparring and competition?
We are not a competition gym. We do have people from our team compete, and they do quite well, but it is not our focus. Our focus is on health and longevity. Sparring is restricted and is never required. If you are interested in sparring or competition we will ask that you attend regular classes for a few months and then ask the coaching staff for approval before joining the sparring and competition groups.

What do I need to bring with me?
Just yourself and some athletic clothes! Water is a good idea, though we have drinking fountains on site. Depending on the program you stick with you might need your own boxing gloves, GI, or kali sticks. Don’t worry about that for your first day though – we have loaners and can get you started.
